Good morning!
How has being in band helped you in preparing for your current life-path and career choice?
-I enjoyed the feeling of finally completing a concert piece or marching show, and everyone in the band felt the same feeling of accomplishment. During the learning process, each instrument and player gets to showcase their contribution and when all sections come together, you truly understand what it means to be a team. As I began to work in a hospital, I noticed that everyone had their own part to play, and without one another, the task wouldn’t be complete and that feeling of satisfaction wasn’t met. So encouraging everyone to apply themselves and invest in their area, not only made me feel like I was benefiting the outcome but others felt acknowledged and appreciated, further improving the patient care.
-I also learned to appreciate the various contributions and artistry when listening to concert pieces. I actually completed a research project, studying the effects concert pieces and the brains ability to process information while studying, compared to regular music or no music at all. Since listening to orchestral and concert pieces my grades have improved and I retain information better.
Were there any lessons from band that helped you make it to where you are now??
-band allowed me to learn something completely new and foreign and understand that it’s okay to struggle and fail, but the best part about being in band, is it’s a group effort, and I got to learn from those around me and those more experienced. Those that did help me were once in my shoes and saw the potential in new band members, it made me feel welcome while I was in a foreign environment.
I hope this helps! Wish you and all the teachers the best!
